Exchange of Statistical Missions with China and Korea

As part of an international cooperation program, the SBJ has
annually exchanged statistical missions
with the National Bureau of Statistics of China since 1980 and with
the Korea National Statistical Office
since 1982.
The Twenty-fourth Chinese Mission to Japan
The statistical mission from China, headed by Mr. Zhang Weimin,
Deputy Commissioner, National
Bureau of Statistics of China, visited Japan from 11 to 16 October
2004. The three other members of the
mission were Mr. Ma Jingkui, Deputy Director-General, Department of
Population, Social, Science and
Technology Statistics; Mr. Xu Gang, Director, Division of Population
Census, Department of Population,
Social, Science and Technology Statistics; and Ms. Li Ruimei,
Assistant Consultant, Division of Statistical
Programs Management, Department of Statistical Design and
Management.
The mission was especially interested in the 2005 Population Census
and the social statistics in Japan.
Both parties exchanged experiences and expertise on these topics.
The mission then visited Hokkaido Prefecture to observe statistical
activities at a local government level.

The Twenty-third Japanese Mission to China
The 23rd Japanese Statistical Mission visited China from 8 to 13
November 2004. The mission was
headed by Mr. SUZUKI Ryoichi, Director-General, Statistical Survey
Department, SBJ. Other members
included Mr. SUZUKI Hideyuki, Senior Research Fellow, Economic and
Social Research Institute,
Cabinet Office; Mr. KONDO Norio, Examiner, Population Census
Division, Statistical Survey
Department, SBJ; and Mr. SAIKI Shuji, Director, General Affairs
Division, General Affairs
Department, NSC.
The mission learned about the 2004 Economic Census of China, Chinese
Population Census and
statistical organization in China, especially the circumstances for
the tabulation implementation system.
Mr. SUZUKI Hideyuki then gave a lecture entitled "Japan's SNA
estimates" to the staff of the National
Bureau of Statistics of China.
They also visited Shaanxi Provincial Statistical Bureau, Xi'an, to
collect information concerning
statistical activities conducted at a local level.

The Twentieth Japanese Statistical Mission to Korea
A four-member Japanese mission headed by Mr. NAKAGAWA Ryoichi,
Director-General of the NSC,
visited the Republic of Korea from 25 to 30 October 2004. Other
members of the mission were Mr. YUI
Kaname, Examiner, General Affairs Division, SBJ; Mr. MURATA Hiroshi,
Assistant Director, Labour
Force Statistics Office, Statistical Survey Department, SBJ; and Mr.
YAMANAKA Tadayuki, Director,
Statistics Division, Office of Planning, Department of Comprehensive
Planning, Hokkaido Prefectural
Government.
At the Korea National Statistical Office in Daejeon, the mission
discussed topics such as the planning
for the 2005 Population and Housing Census, and the tabulation of
censuses and surveys.
The mission also visited Kyongsang Bug Do provincial government and
the provincial office of Pusan.
